Product Description
This Lowara 0.55kW single-phase, three-wire motor replaces the motor on a compatible 4-inch submersible bore pump. It is supplied as a motor only; the pump end is separate.
Replacement compatibility

The NEMA-standard shaft and mounting dimensions suit correctly matched bore-pump ends. Match the coupling and mounting arrangement, rotation, and the pump’s maximum shaft-power requirement over its intended operating range. A larger motor does not by itself increase the pump’s flow or pressure.
- Axial thrust capacity: 3000N.
Starting and controls
This three-wire version requires a matching external capacitor starter/control box and motor overload protection. An existing starter must be checked for compatibility with the replacement motor. Three-wire and two-wire motors use different starting arrangements.
Automatic pressure or level switching is a separate control function. Select the supply cable and protection to suit the motor nameplate and installation.
Construction
- Oil-filled motor with a rewindable stator.
- Stainless-steel outer sleeve.
- Mechanical seal protected by a sand guard.
- Motor lead with a removable watertight connector.
- Enclosure protection: IP68.
- Insulation: Class F.
Cooling and installation
- Maximum standard water temperature: 35°C with adequate cooling.
- Minimum cooling-water speed past the motor: 0.08m/s.
- Maximum submergence: 150m below the water surface.
- Water pH: 4–8.
- Maximum starts with direct starting: 30 per hour, evenly spaced.
Water must flow around the motor casing to remove heat. Fit a cooling sleeve where the installation cannot provide the required cooling flow. Keep the motor submerged and clear of sediment; do not run dry. Support the assembly with suitable installation hardware and never by the electrical cable. Extend the motor lead with correctly sized submersible cable and a waterproof joint.
The installation position must suit both the motor and the attached pump. Follow the instructions supplied with each.
Where an approved impedance-starting arrangement is used, the limit is 20 starts per hour. Follow the supplied motor and starter instructions.
Variable-speed operation
Confirm the exact motor version and controller compatibility before using a variable-speed drive. The 4OS installation manual requires a specially ordered motor for frequency-converter operation, with the specified power derating and cooling maintained at the lowest operating speed.
